The smooth holding of the Conference about Training for Setting up Excellent Open Video Courses in 2011

To have an accurate understanding of the content, requirements and technical standards of setting up open video courses, the Conference about Training for Setting up Excellent Open Video Courses in 2011 is organized by Undergraduate School of Zhejiang University under the auspices of Research Center for Teaching and Learning of the Ministry of Education in Lily Hotel in Hangzhou. There are 105 persons in total present in the conference, including Li Xiaoming, the head of Teaching Technology Office of Department of Higher Education, Deng Jie in the Research Center for Teaching and Learning of the Ministry of Education, Chen Jin, deputy dean of Undergraduate School of Zhejiang University, Lu Guodong vice president of Undergraduate School of Zhejiang University and persons-in-charge of teaching affairs offices and technology divisions of 35 universities in 985 Project.
 
The conference is chaired by Deng Jie with Professor Chen Jin as the representative to deliver a welcoming speech to the leaders and teachers present and elaborate the importance of establishing excellent open video courses.
 
Li Xiaoming, the director of Teaching Technology Office of Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, introduced the background, objective and content requirements, plan and the like of establishing open video courses, Lu Guodong, vice president of Undergraduate School of Zhejiang University delivered his speech of Experience Learned through Establishing Excellent Open Video Courses in Zhejiang University, Dong Rong, deputy director of Modern Education Technology Center the speech Technology as Support to Promote Educational Development: Thinking about Open Video Course in Retrospect and the Work Groups three symposiums of Hardware and Technique for Making Videos of Open Courses. During the conference several samples of excellent video courses were broadcasted.
 
After the symposiums communication and discussion were conducted by the teaching and technique groups, who were involved in heated debate on such aspects as policy, technical standards, confusion and difficulties. Representatives present considered it necessary and timely to convene the conference. It clarified the orientation and objective of open video courses and made it clear that establishing open video courses was the responsibility taken by universities in 985 Project and could be taken as their specific actions in return for society. Besides, video courses were good ways to promote cultural inheritance and innovation. Therefore, they should choose topics that were closely related to students and teachers and took into consideration the common people, featuring in wide range of knowledge and profundity to attract audiences; teamwork were needed to create open video courses so as to make the m excellent, unique and profuse and open to teachers and students in universities of China and all society.
