On May, 4th the fourth Lunch Saloon of Center of Teachers’ Development is held in the teahouse in South Garden in Zijinggang of ZJU, with willow downs swaying in the air along the bank of Qizhen Lake. Professor Shi Yueding is invited to give a speech on How to Solve Problems in Classroom.
Prof. Shi has been engaged in teaching and research for quite a long time, awarded as Top Teacher in Zhejiang Province and renowned among students and colleagues with his responsible and serious teaching attitude and style. Today through face-to-face communication his excellent thought is highly appreciated by all presents.
He underlines the responsibility of teachers, claiming that “as teachers, we must undertake the responsibility of education students”, “we have to stick to the principle of honesty and uprightness, not deviating from the values of teachers”, “we are responsible for students’ development, such as teaching, guidance, development students’ overall knowledge, capability and quality”.
He also mentions the responsibility of students with some university students lacking in active exploration and independent thinking and wishing to succeed at short notice. Thus there’s longer and longer distance between teachers and students, demanding to cultivate students’ sense of responsibility and give more attention to their thought, mentality and life. “At present some students even don’t know the name of teachers, thus how to make students and teachers closer deserves to be thought about.” Ma Liqin, a teacher in School of Medicine proposes her opinion.
When it comes to the application of information technology in classroom, Prof. Shi thinks it should be used at appropriate time and place and to an appropriate proportion with more original teaching and sincere, interactive and direct communication so as to convey teachers’ personality, thought, philosophy, knowledge and wisdom etc. better and bring out their best.
It ends up in the thick tea fragrance with all teachers present appreciating the opportunity to communicate with each other and get relaxed.
